KCEOC Community Action Partnership Pre-Purchase Counselor, Beverly Isom, made a visit to two first grade classrooms at Girdler Elementary to conduct a mini workshop about money and future jobs.
During her visit she, and the first grade students, had a great time doing different activities. Isom read “The Berenstain Bears and Mama's New Job” book to both classrooms. Also, they covered topics including spending money, money management, money management skills, saving money, goal saving, hobbies, and working as a team.
The classroom didn’t leave empty handed, all the students received a goody bag and prizes were given away. Also, each classroom received a “Penny the Pig” large piggy bank. The piggy banks will be used for the children to put pennies in and save for supplies needed in the classroom.
All of this was made possible through the HAF Counseling Grant. The HAF grant was recently funded by the Kentucky Housing Corporation. The HAF Grant is used for counseling and education about various topics including financial literacy, fair housing, homelessness, budgeting, home buying, homelessness prevention, etc. It is a goal of KCEOC’s to ensure our community is prepared for current and future money management and housing knowledge needed to be successful and self-sufficient.
